Are you afraid of Carbon like I am? Well, here is a blog with tons of pictures of busted carbon frames.

So like any other cyclist, I confess that I am not always satisfied with what I have, and would like to have some other wonderful piece of kit that someone else is riding. This week’s obsession is faster wheels.
As we all know, it is a fact that wheels make you faster; this phenomenon is similar to how white bar tape makes you go faster, but I digress.
You could spend a whole bunch of time training hard and improving your cardio condition, but let’s face it, why bother when a pair of Zipp 808’s will solve that pesky speed plateau you’re stuck in.
Ok, I’m exaggerating here.. turns out the improvements some of these wheels give slow pokes like me is so nominal that I’m only bound to feel faster rather than actually make much of a difference (for how slow I am). That doesn’t change the fact that they are wicked looking right?
Therefore, those that I find most wicked, and through the transitive property, make me go faster are, in no particular order:
As for why the Zipp’s aren’t there? Well, when I dream of stuff, I don’t dream of stuff I’ll never be able to afford… or at least justify. I guess I’ll just have to keep on dreaming.
Here are two interesting links:
The first is of a wheel rental service here in the UK. You get to rent some wicked ZIPP and HED wheels for ‘cheap’ so you can try them out or race with them. Great idea. Kind of like a guy’s version of a purse rental.
Also, here is a mechanic service that comes to you. Thus avoiding the whole issue of having to bring a whole bunch of internet-purchased kit to your LBS.
This is a link to the PDF version of the book titled “The Custom Bicycle”.
It contains a wealth of knowledge, albeit old, but still cool and relevant for bike nuts (particularly if you are into fixies, or steel frames).
Just a few interesting cycling links that I’ve read recently:
1) A review of the Polar RS800CX Pro Team Edition
2) A comparison of different wheels and their aero vs inertia capabilities
